He falls deeply in love with her the moment he sees her and asks her to go home with him. Although he was ultimately unable to bring her back to life, he charmed Hades with his music such that after his death, Hades employed Orpheus as his court musician. During his life, he lost his wife and muse Eurydice and ventured to the Underworld to plea for her return. He is a poor musician who works as a waiter when he meets Eurydice. Orpheus is a legendary musician, poet, and prophet. But, during the trip, Orpheus had to promise not to look back until both he and his wife were safely back on earth. Orpheus is the main character in 'Hadestown'. When he reached the opening to the land of living and light, he was so ecstatic to have his love back. Orpheus and Eurydice made their way back out. The two could not look back as they ventured out of the Underworld. Hades warned that if Orpheus turned and looked at Eurydice while she was still in the dark, she would be condemned to the underworld forever. Hades agreed to let Eurydice follow her husband back to earth and life. Hades allowed Orpheus to take Eurydice back to the mortal world. Hades told Orpheus that he could look at Eurydice when she finally entered the light of the upper world, but he could not look at her while she was in the dark in the underworld.
